GHS 1960         EFFIE Sis' VIOLA  PITTS EPPERSON

BLUEFIELD — Effie "Sis" Viola Epperson, 67, of Rt. 5 Box 426-A, Bluefield, W.Va., passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at her residence.

Effie was born on August 02, 1942 in McDowell County, W.Va. to the late Arnold Pitts and Grace Davis Pitts.

Effie was a member of Edgemont Baptist Church and also attended Cumberland Heights Baptist Church and had a been a resident of Bluewell, W.Va. for the past 20 years. She worked for AT&T in Washington D.C. for 28 years. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She loved cooking for her family.

After retiring from AT&T, Sis worked as a caregiver, a profession that suited her because of her caring nature. Sis was a generous soul who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Robert Dale Epperson; brothers, Thomas Pitts, Danny Pitts and Larry Pitts; and one sister, Ann Pitts Lewis.

Survivors include one son, Wendell Spratt of Bluewell, W.Va.; three daughters, Aleta Barie and husband Danny of Princeton, W.Va., Tammy Lynn Edwards and husband Charles of Bluefield, W.Va., Melissa Epperson of the home; two brothers, Johnny Pitts and wife Janice of Melvindale, Mich., Jerry Pitts and wife Annette of Manassas, Va.; two sisters, Neida Miller of Mineral, Va., Carol Kay Prater and husband Allen of Vero Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Gregory Dunn, Jr., Debbie Dunn, Natalie Barie and Noah Sequoyah; great-grandchild, Briannah Faith Walkup; special niece, Jamie Epperson whom helped care for her.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 01, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Cumberland Heights Baptist Church in Bluefield, W.Va. with the Reverend Jim Kestner officiating the memorial service.

Friends and family may call at the Cumberland Heights Baptist Church on Monday one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be held at the Epperson Family Cemetery in Mudfork, Va. at a later date.
